moat

The default-deny posture of the nest. All approaches are refused unless a drawbridge is explicitly lowered. Three exist: 22, 80, 443 (+443/udp for the impatient). What the moat keeps out is catalogued on the perils sheet. — cf. firewalld, public zone

drawbridge

A port deliberately opened through the moat. Lowering one is a one-line ceremony: firewall-cmd --permanent --add-service=X, then a reload. The moat remembers.

relay channel

The encrypted nerve between naturalist and specimen. Bursts are short, end-to-end sealed, and the nest keeps no unsealed copies — it once burned credentials on request to prove the point. — cf. signal-cli

east wind

A server-side gale, first recorded Sept 24, 2026, that closes consumer Outlook IMAP to honest OAuth tokens. The mail watchdog waits it out. Watchers in the wild report one-in-five openings; this nest has seen none. — cf. the Microsoft fault

morning forage

The daily 09:00 UTC package gathering. Followed by a reboot only when the kernel insists (needs-restarting). Silent on boring days — the best kind. — cf. dnf update

two-ink printing

The press method of this guide: fluor pink and process blue, one pass each, deliberately misregistered by 1.4 units. The PRESS control in the corner shows which pass is on the platen. — cf. riso

A page fixed at press time. No ink is mixed after publication; nothing moves that was not printed to move. This entire guide is static sheets.

oracle

The distant cousin consulted for thinking. It never sees the nest itself — only letters carried by the relay. Costs crumbs per thought. — cf. the model
